Respite Care Services

Platinum Retirement Solutions specialise in short term respite care placements for a loved one who is usually cared for at home. There are numerous respite care options available and it may be challenging finding the most suitable one for your current care situation.

Whether you are going on holiday, are struggling to balance work, family and friends or are suddenly unable to care for your loved one for a short period of time, whatever the reason may be, we can assist you with finding the most suitable care package to allow you to be independent while your primary carer takes a short break.

What is Respite Care

Residential respite is short-term accommodation in a residential aged care facility for people requiring temporary alternate care arrangements. It is designed to help carers continue in their caring role by a providing a ‘break’ from caring.

Eligibility for Respite in an Aged Care Facility (Residential Respite Care)

In order to be eligible for respite care in an aged care facility the applicant will need to have an “Aged Care Client Record” (ACAT Assessment) with approval for either low or high care. The Aged Care Client Record is compiled upon the conclusion of the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) Assessment.
An ACAT Assessment is a free service and there is no obligation placed upon the applicant to comply with the recommendations noted by the Assessor on the completed assessment. However, we highly recommend that the recommendations made by the assessor are adhered to.

Eligibility for residential respite care is 63 days each financial year (1 July – 30 June). The carer allowance is not affected unless more than 63 days’ respite in each financial year is taken.

Costs

The cost of residential respite care, known as the “Basic Daily Fee”, in a residential aged care facility is 85% of the single aged pension. The “Basic Daily Fee” is increased in line with increases to the Australian aged pension.
The Australian aged pension is reviewed in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) twice annually, that is, on 20 March and again on 20 September.

If you are a veteran gold card holder you may be eligible for funding assistance.
